About the condition

What Is Iliotibial Band Syndrome?

The iliotibial band is a thick band of connective tissue that runs down the outside of your thigh. It extends all the way from your pelvic bones to the top of your tibia. It has been suggested that the iliotibial band becomes irritated due to fat compression beneath the iliotibial tract, rather than friction as the knee moves. This condition is one of the most common knee injuries in runners presenting with lateral knee pain.
