What do physiotherapists do?

Physiotherapists have studied the structure and movement of the human body to degree, Masters or doctorate level. We assess, diagnose and treat many musculoskeletal, cardiopulmonary or neurological conditions. You might see us due to an acute injury or chronic condition or because you want to retain your strength as you age.

You’ll find physio's working in hospitals, community health centres, sports clubs, aged care facilities and in private practice, as we do here at Vitalis Physiotherapy, your 'physiotherapist near me'.

Once you have been assessed, we design an individual program of care to treat any current injury or overuse and to strengthen your body to reduce the risk of further injury.

When should I see a physio?

There are many good reasons to see a physio ranging from sports injuries to chronic diseases. You might:

  • Want to improve your flexibility, fitness or strength
  • Have noticed bruising, swelling, soreness or stiffness
  • Have ongoing or intermittent pain
  • Feel like your joints are giving way or your muscles are weak
  • Be an expectant mum suffering from pregnancy aches and pains
  • Be a new mum recovering from birth
  • Have aching muscles or painful joints
  • Be keen to learn safe ways to exercise so you can lose weight
  • Be recovering from an injury
  • Have ongoing pins and needles
  • Be keen to return to exercise and are unsure where to start
  • Struggle with continence or other mens and womens health issues
  • Have hypermobile joints
  • Be dealing with growing pains
  • Had a car accident or work place injury
  • Have a chronic condition like diabetes, osteoarthritis, MS or cancer.
  • Second opinion on your injury or a different approach to your recovery
  • Looking for non-invasive or alternative treatments such as dry needling or shockwave therapy

What if I need to cancel my appointment?

We understand that plans can change. Please give us as much notice as you can, so we can offer the appointment to someone on our waiting list.

  • One-to-one appointments — at least 24 hours’ notice
  • Clinical Classes — at least 12 hours’ notice
  • NDIS appointments — at least 48 hours’ notice

If you cancel with less notice than that, or do not attend, the applicable session fee may be charged in full, and a prepaid Clinical Class session may be deducted from your pack. Where your treatment is funded by a third party such as WorkCover, CTP, DVA or Medicare, these fees are generally not covered by the funder and remain your responsibility. Genuine emergencies and unexpected circumstances are considered case by case.

Full details are on our Cancellation Policy page.

Will I need another appointment?

It is likely. The body heals slowly and we usually like to see you again to find out how you’re going. What works for one person may not work for another.

In subsequent appointments your physio may assess another part of the body, progress the treatment of the current area, adjust your exercises or try another form of treatment.

What should I wear?

Wear loose, comfortable clothes. We’ll need to see how you’re moving and examine the sore part of your body.

Where can I park?

There’s plenty of free onsite parking at Sinnamon Park Village, where our clinic is located in the Western Brisbane Suburb of Sinnamon Park.

What do I do between visits?

Follow your physiotherapists advice. Try to avoid postures that will aggravate your condition. If you have been given stretches or exercises to do, then please do them! We are able to perform some amazing treatments during your sessions but often the best long-term success is achieved by you strengthening your body through regular, targeted exercises and stretches.

If you have any concerns about your exercises or they appear to be making your pain worse, then please call 0410 559 856 to discuss this with your physiotherapist.

How long will recovery take?

Remember that healing and recovery takes time and not everyone heals/recovers at the same rate. If anytime during your care, you do not feel that you are recovering as well as you thought you would be, please discuss this with your physiotherapist at your next appointment

Are You a Preferred Provider?

We are registered with most of the private health funds, which means you can claim your rebate on the spot. We are not a preferred provider and we’re happy to explain why.

Some health insurance companies have developed preferred provider schemes with allied health practitioners like physiotherapists. The Australian Physiotherapy Association does not support preferred provider schemes.

Preferred providers are not offering a higher standard of care or more experienced staff. They are just agreeing to bring their fees in line with the amounts set by the health fund. We believe this is a race to the bottom that devalues physiotherapists and gives health insurance companies undue influence over patient care.

Here at Vitalis Physiotherapy, we want to give you a superior service. We value our patients and our time. And we trust the advice of our professional body, the Australian Physiotherapy Association. So, no, we are not a preferred provider. We do not want our business model to be driven by what a health fund will or won’t pay for. We want Vitalis Physiotherapy to provide quality care based on clinical need in a sustainable practice.

Does Medicare Cover Physio?

Yes! Your physio sessions can be partially funded by Medicare but you need to meet special requirements:

  • you must have a chronic medical condition (meaning something that you have suffered with for a longer period of time)
  • you need to have the appropriate referral from your GP, who needs to send you to a specific physiotherapy clinic (please provide Vitalis Physiotherapy details if you wish to be treated by our experienced physiotherapists)

Please note that your eligibility is up to your GP’s clinical judgement, taking into account your medical condition and care needs.

Your doctor will require the following information to send us a referral:

Vitalis Physiotherapy
3/58 Oldfield Road
Sinnamon Park QLD 4073

P: 0410 559 856
F: 07 3532 0221
E: info@vitalisphysiotherapy.com.au
Provider Number: 472075DJ

We want to help as many people as possible, with all their musculoskeletal and sports injury needs, so Vitalis Physiotherapy is very pleased to be able to accept and process Medicare rebates for physiotherapy consultations.
